SUMMARY:6-13 Day!
DESCRIPTION:On June 8\, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe declared June 13 — 613\, our area code — officially Ottawa Day\, or 613 Day. It lands squarely in a milestone year: Ottawa’s 200th\, a citywide celebration under the theme Celebrate Together. \nHere’s the good news for Vanier businesses: the City has waived patio fees for the entire summer. Putting your patio out — or extending it — costs you nothing extra this year\, so there’s every reason to spill onto the sidewalk and invite customers to linger. Patios are open\, the weather’s turning\, and Ottawa is looking for reasons to get out and spend local. \nSo here’s the rallying cry: pack the patios. \nOn June 13\, we want our mainstreet buzzing — tables full\, sidewalks alive\, neighbours rediscovering everything that makes Vanier\, Vanier. It’s a chance to show off what you do best and bring people through your door. \nTwo hundred years is worth celebrating — and the best way is together\, on the mainstreet and patios that make this neighbourhood ours. \nFollow the Vanier BIA on Instagram and Facebook [@zacvanierbia] for 613 Day updates — and tag us so we can showcase your patio to the whole city.

SUMMARY:Community Maple Tapping
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, the Vanier Museopark seeks the help of the community to take part in an essential step in the production of maple syrup at its sugar shack: maple tree tapping. The Vanier Sugar Shack is the only operating sugar shack in an urban setting in Canada! \nYoung and old\, families\, couples and friends are invited to come to the Richelieu Park forest\, about 5 minutes from downtown Ottawa\, to tap sugar maple trees in the traditional way: drilling holes in the trees\, inserting spigots and hanging buckets to collect maple water\, the tree’s sweet sap. \nThe maple sap will be harvested later in the spring\, when the days are warmer\, but the nights are still cold. It will then be boiled for several hours to be transformed into maple syrup\, a golden\, amber and deliciously sweet liquid!
