Growing up in Montego Bay\, his mother Mertella Morris was a choir leader in the Church of God of Prophecy where a young Ras Lee started singing in Sunday School. He would later sing for the church in various locations around the island. His father\, Thomas Morris\, known as Anancy\, was a well-known lead singer of a Calypso band and worked at the various resort hotels in Montego Bay. He continued his musical career and performed with many top reggae acts including Heaven’s Radio\, Roots Revival (led by Ernie Smith)\, Toronto’s Reggae AllStar\, and Ottawa’s Magic Circle. In Ottawa\, Ras Lee founded the band Roots Movement\, which continues today\, led by bassist Owen Brown. SUMMARY:AKOUSTIK
DESCRIPTION:Akoustik at St. Charles is back again this week with Shawn Tavenier and Jessica Pearson & The East Wind! Join us at St. Charles market from 6pm – 8pm. \nAkoustik at St. Charles is a FREE outdoor live music event right here in Vanier. It’s held at the St. Charles Market at the corner of Beechwood Avenue and St. Charles Street. We’ll see you there! \nNo tickets required \n\nJESSICA PEARSON & THE EAST WIND\nLike the yellow morning sun inviting fields of sunflowers to turn toward her\, Jessica Pearson naturally draws her listeners in. Whether you are at a Jessica Pearson & the East Wind live show or enjoying her musical offerings through your Bluetooth speaker\, you are sure to feel the sunny warmth she so effortlessly conveys. \nThere is a grounded current of energy that runs through Pearson’s music and connects with her audience. It feels like bare feet planted on an old hardwood floor. It smells like fields of heather on a foggy day. \nHer love for storytelling\, drawing on folk\, outlaw country\, and Celtic traditions\, is evident in her songwriting. The stories she tells are like lovingly-sewn patchwork quilts\, stitched together by soul-stirring melodies and gorgeous modern folk-country arrangements. They are the quilts you spread out under the stars\, and the ones you wrap yourself in all winter long. These stories\, with their frayed edges\, become more beautiful the longer you sit with them. \nIn 2021\, Pearson received the Folk Music Ontario ‘Songs from the Heart’ award for her song Ready My Heart. She was also selected for Global Music Match\, a program created to connect artists internationally on social media platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pearson’s forthcoming album has been nominated for ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2022 Faces Ottawa Awards. \nHer long-awaited debut album On The Line was released on January 21\, 2022\, through Willow Sound Records. \nSHAWN TAVERNIER\nShawn is a Canadian songwriter\, singer and entertainer living in the capital of Canada\, Ottawa\, Ontario.

SUMMARY:Akoustik
DESCRIPTION:Akoustik at St. Charles is back again this week with Grace Marr and Charlie A’Court! Join us at St. Charles market from 6pm – 8pm \nAkoustik is a FREE outdoor live music event right here in Vanier. It’s held at the St. Charles Market at the corner of Beechwood Avenue and St. Charles Street. We’ll see you there! \nNo ticket required. \n\nGRACE MARR\nUp-and-coming Canadian powerhouse\, Grace Marr\, is a multi-genre songwriter and ‘Alternative Inspirational’ artist (a term she’s coined to embody her fusion of Gospel/CCM\, Folk\, and R&B). The Ottawa-born singer-songwriter introduced herself to the music scene in July of 2023 with independently released\, nostalgia-infused single ‘Twenty-Two Again’\, followed by boundary-breaking\, spiritual single ‘Gin’\, and most recent summer bop ‘Body Issues’. This past April\, Grace released her 5-track EP ‘Supernatural’ which was showcased on Breakfast Television where she performed ‘Belong’ and was interviewed by Tracy Moore and Meredith Shaw on national live television. Spending the last few years honing her craft in the songwriting space\, Grace has most notably written with Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins (Whitney Houston\, Justin Bieber\, Destiny’s Child) as part of the YYZ-LAX Songwriting Camp\, and co-wrote ‘Where Would I Be’ on Maverick City Music’s TRIBL Anthologies album (released shortly after the music group’s Grammy win for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album). Performing on stages such as TIFF\, RBC Bluesfest\, and MEGAPHONO\, Grace has developed a raw\, soulful sound as she belts over lyrics that bridge faith with everyday life. She is consistently working on new music and is currently finishing the final touches on her debut album\, Saving Grace\, set for release on July 12th\, 2024. \nCHARLIE A’COURT\nPlanted at the crossroads of roots and soul\, Charlie A’Court possesses a mighty voice\, fierce guitar work\, and contemporary songwriting that is loved by fans across Canada and beyond. His latest album\, “A’Court\, Spiegel\, & Vinnick”\, just won Blues Recording of The Year at the 2024 East Coast Music Awards. This fully acoustic album sees A’Court in a wonderful\, synergistic collaboration with Australian blues legend\, Lloyd Spiegel\, and Canadian roots/blues icon\, Suzie Vinnick. \nCharlie has always been recognized for exploring his musical horizons. As a six-time ECMA winner and eight-time Nova Scotia Music Award winner\, Charlie has earned awards for Blues\, Pop\, and R&B/Soul Recordings of the Year\, and on multiple occasions been recognized as Entertainer of the Year. A’Court has also received multiple Maple Blues Award nominations including Male Vocalist and Songwriter of the Year. \nThis fall (2024)\, Charlie will be releasing his new album. “San Palarino” is an Americana-driven deep dive into growing older\, emotional well-being\, and the collective weight bearing down on humanity. Much of the album features co-writes with some of Canada’s top singer/songwriters including Matt Andersen\, Terra Spencer\, and Colin MacDonald (The Trews).
