AZTEC TACOS

This is an unusual business, and not just for the unique decor. Aztec Tacos is part of a religious community; the staff are volunteers, and the profits go towards supporting the nearby Light of the World church. We spoke with one of those volunteers, Neri Fragoso.Â
“Through Aztec Tacos, we were able to get a bigger church, and also a bigger space for Aztec Tacos,” Neri told us.  Â
Her favourite part of the job is meeting the customers. “They’re always asking me, ‘what do you recommend’ or ‘what is your favourite dish’ or ‘what dish is most popular’,” she says with a smile. “And then I get to see the excitement where they want to try everything.“Â
What did she recommend for us?Â
“Our signature dish is quesabirrias,” she suggested. A taco stuffed with cheese (quesa) and steamed, shredded steak (birria), served with a consommé dipping sauce on the side.Â
