EcoEquitable
For nearly 25 years, EcoEquitable has been a hub for sewing in the Vanier community.
EcoEquitable is a registered charity that works to reduce textile waste and empower women in the community, all through the art of sewing.
“Vanier is really amazing because we have a lot of supportive people here,” Carolina Nino, the Program and Volunteer Coordinator at EcoEquitable said.
Nino says that they offer a lot of sewing programs for the community.
“Our main program is Sewing for Jobs, supporting new commerce,” Nino said.
The award-winning course is designed to equip women experiencing barriers to employment and newcomers with both sewing and business skills.
In addition to Sewing for Jobs, EcoEquitable also offers public sewing classes.
EcoEquitable sells premium fabrics, ranging from $5 to $25. They have wool, cotton, linen and quilting fabric available for sale.
“My favourite part is attending customers,” Nino said. “It’s not just selling fabric, we are always supporting the customer. We are designing together.“
EcoEquitable is located at 404 McArthur Avenue.
