Ottawa, ON — October 1, 2026
From patios packed for Ottawa’s 200th birthday, to a magical dinner under a double rainbow, to twenty artists on the Akoustik Stage, to seven thousand people filling Beechwood Avenue — the summer of 2026 in Vanier was something special.
Here’s a look back at four moments that made this season one for the books.
🌇 6-13 Day — Pack the Patios for Ottawa’s 200th (June 13)
In honour of Ottawa’s bicentennial, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe officially declared June 13 (6-13) as “6-13 Day” — a citywide moment to celebrate the mainstreets and communities that have shaped our city over two hundred years.
Because the declaration landed on the same weekend as our annual Summer Sun event, we paused Summer Sun for the year and threw our full weight behind the city’s celebration instead. The VBIA answered the call the best way we know how: Pack the Patios. Restaurants and cafés along Beechwood, Montréal Road, and MacArthur rolled out specials, cranked up the music, and threw their doors open to welcome friends, neighbours, and visitors from every ward.
It was a fitting kickoff to the summer — and a reminder that our mainstreets have always been where community happens.
🌙 Partage Beechwood — 200 Guests, $80,000 Raised, One Unforgettable Night (August 19)
The eighth edition of Partage Beechwood, presented by title sponsor Mark Motors, brought together 200 guests around one long, glowing table beneath the lanterns of Beechwood Cemetery for a Moroccan-inspired evening.
Chef Dave Godsoe of DG Cuisine returned for his third consecutive year to prepare a five-course dinner. Carole Saad of Chic + Swell transformed the grounds with silks, lanterns, and copper details that turned the cemetery into something out of a story. And when an early-evening downpour rolled through, it gave way to a stunning double rainbow arching over the cemetery — a moment guests will be talking about for years.
Together, the community raised $80,000 for Partage Vanier Food Bank, surpassing our $65,000 goal. The scale of the need is significant: more than one in five Vanier residents relied on the food bank this year, and 65% of them were new clients. Every ticket, every sponsor, every bid went directly toward feeding neighbours.
As the evening unfolded, a belly dancer wound through the tables between courses — one of countless small moments that made the night feel less like a fundraiser and more like a story you couldn’t script. Relive the whole evening through our event gallery.
Save the date: Partage Beechwood 2027 returns Wednesday, August 18. 🕯️
🎶 Akoustik — Twenty Artists, One Award-Winning Summer (July 15 – September 30)
Our free, outdoor, award-winning summer music series returned to St. Charles Market Square with its biggest lineup yet: twenty artists across the Wednesdays of July, August, and September, spanning folk, hip-hop, blues, Afro-fusion, soul, and everything in between.
Ottawa weather had its say and cost us three Wednesdays — but we weren’t going to let the summer go out on a rain-out. Last night, Wednesday, September 30, we returned to the market square for a rain-date makeup show: a triple bill with an extended evening capped off by JUNO Award winner Angelique Francis, who brought the house down alongside blues artist Lyle Odjick. What a way to send off the 2026 season.
Other highlights across the summer included Jeff & the Falcons delivering vintage rock magic in July, and an all-Franco-Ontarian night on September 23 featuring JOLY and Moonfruits under a full-sun sky.
This year, we also introduced the brand-new Akoustik On-Site Vendor Program, which invited BIA members to set up right at the event — a natural complement to our long-running Merchant Offers Program, where concertgoers can score discounts at participating shops and restaurants along Beechwood.

Huge thanks to our sponsors — John Gomes Real Estate, The Lake Partnership, St. Charles Market, and Long & McQuade — for making Wednesday nights in Vanier sound like home.
🎉 BeechFest — 7,000 People, One Extra Block, One Unforgettable Day (September 12)
We closed out the summer with a bang. BeechFest 2026 transformed Beechwood Avenue into Vanier’s biggest block party yet — literally. This year, we extended the closure a full extra block, from Marier to Loyer, and the neighbourhood filled every inch of it.
7,000 people came through over six hours. On the Akoustik Stage: Patenteuses, Monkey Rock Music, the Drag Family Dance Party, Sam Stone Band, and DJ ALAMUSIC kept the energy climbing from mid-afternoon straight through to nightfall. All along the strip, Beechwood’s own kitchens — Red Door Provisions, Jacobsons, Jr. and the Kid BBQ, Linden Pizza, Muckleston & Brockwell, Edinburger, Schoolhouse Pizza, and Danté — served up street eats.
Alongside them, dozens of artisan makers, retail vendors — including a standout pop-up from Vintage Lane — and community partners lined the length of the street with everything from handmade goods to local services to neighbourhood organizations connecting with residents. Circus acts, roving performers from LaboKracBoom, Grézil, and Cirkoler, face painting, henna, and storefront activations turned every corner into a moment of its own.
And our businesses? They rocked it. Busy storefronts, lineups down the block. For the merchants that call Beechwood home, BeechFest is one of the biggest sales days of the year — and 2026 raised the bar.
Looking Ahead
Every one of these events is built on the same thing: a levy paid by our members, put back into the community in the form of programming, foot traffic, and moments people remember. That’s the model. That’s the point. And 2026 was proof that it works.
To every merchant, sponsor, performer, artist, partner, volunteer, and every one of you who showed up — thank you. See you next summer. 🌅
